Chiu & Corren Rise To The Crocodile Challenge

16 Sep 2007

Top seeds Mike Corren and Rebecca Chiu lifted the Crocodile Challenge Cup trophies after successes in today's finals in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong number one Chiu faced second seed Sharon Wee in the final of the women's WISPA World Tour 10 event - and the Malaysian took the opening game.

But title-holder Chiu fought back to claim a 7-9, 9-4, 9-3, 9-2 victory in 34 minutes.

The win marks Chiu's third consecutive Crocodile Challenge Cup success - and the 13th WISPA title of her career.

An upset in the all-Hong Kong men's semi-final between second seed Wai Hang Wong and No4 seed Dick Lau meant that Australian favourite Mike Corren faced surprise opponent Lau in the final.

But the 33-year-old, originally from Adelaide, showed no signs of the Achilles injury which took him out of the game just over a year ago as he strode to a 11-10 (2-0), 11-10 (2-0), 11-9 victory in 43 minutes.

The success marks Australian champion Corren's second PSA Tour title of the year - and the 15th of his career.

[1] Mike Corren (AUS) bt [4] Dick Lau (HKG) 11-10 (2-0), 11-10 (2-0), 11-9 (43m)

Women's Final:
