Nicol David Maintains World Number One Ranking

3 Oct 2007

Malaysia's Nicol David has held her grip on the number one position in the new October Women's World Rankings - moving into her 15th successive month at the top of the list published by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA).

David maintains a healthy lead ahead of Australian rival Natalie Grinham, the world No2 - while Natalie's older sister Rachael Grinham, who beat the Malaysian in last month's final of the Dunlop British Open, has strengthened her hold on third place.

Whilst England's Tania Bailey and Vicky Botwright remain in fourth and sixth place, respectively, in the latest list, compatriot Laura Lengthorn-Massaro returns to the top ten at 10 after retaining her title in the Wolverhampton Open last month.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu rises two places to record a career-high 13th place in the October rankings. The 28-year-old former Asian Games champion enjoyed a highly successful month in September - winning the Crocodile Challenge Cup and NSC Tour 10 No1 to bring her WISPA World Tour title tally to 13.

Victory in last week's Icelandair Group Classic, the maiden event in the new WISPA Premiere Series, sees England's Dominique Lloyd-Walter return to the top 20 after an eight-month gap.
