Seeds Prevail In Hong Kong

Local players are poised to contest both the men's and women's finals in the Crocodile Challenge Cup after the top seeds prevailed in today's quarter-finals of the Tour event in Hong Kong.

Rebecca Chiu, top seed in the women's WISPA World Tour 10 event, despatched Hong Kong compatriot Elise Ng 9-0, 9-7, 9-2 and will now face Australian No4 seed Peta Hughes for a place in the final.

An all-Hong Kong women's final is on the cards as local player Christina Mak, the third seed, takes on Sharon Wee, the second seed from Malaysia. In the quarters, Mak coasted to a 9-5, 9-2, 9-3 win over Malaysian Lim Yoke Wah, while Wee was taken the full distance by Hong Kong's Annie Au before beating the Asian Junior Champion 6-9, 10-8, 9-2, 6-9, 9-4 in 66 minutes.

Hong Kong representation in the men's final is certain after both Dick Lau and Wai Hang Wong survived 28-minute quarter-finals to set up their semi-final clash. Lau, the No4 seed, defeated Malaysia's Muhammad Azfar Azan 11-6, 11-7, 11-1 while second seed Wong beat Muhammad's younger brother Muhd Asyraf Azan 11-1, 11-8, 11-9,

Australian Mike Corren is on course for his second PSA Tour title this month after beating Japan's Yasunori Ishiwata 11-8, 11-10 (4-2), 11-10 (5-3). The top seed now faces Kamran Khan, the No8 seed from Malaysia, who beat Hong Kong's Roger Ngan 11-7, 11-9, 11-8,
