14 Apr 2007

Welshman Jethro Binns ended the run of local hero Andre Wikstrom in the men's quarter-finals of the Malmo Open when he became the only unseeded player to reach the semi-finals of the PSA Tour event at Bellevuestadion in Malmo.

The 22-year-old from Abergavenny, a student at Loughborough University in England, beat the Swede 11-1, 11-5, 11-5 and will now face France's Romain Tenant for a place in the final.

Second seed Tenant beat Denmark's Morten W Sorensen 11-9, 11-7, 11-10 (3-1).

Swedish interest was also extinguished in the women's WISPA World Tour event when Anna-Carin Forstadius went down 9-2, 4-9, 9-4, 9-3 to fourth seed Lotte Eriksen. Now leading Scandinavian hopes in Malmo, the Norwegian takes on England's second seed Kirsty McPhee in the semi-finals.
