Coppinger Celebrates PSA Tour Title Hat-Trick At Austrian Open

2 Apr 2007

South African Stephen Coppinger swept to victory in the final of the Austrian Open at Squashclub Manhattan in Vienna to claim his third PSA Tour title this year in his third final.

The 22-year-old fourth seed from Durban reached the final without conceding a game - after upsetting top-seeded local player Aqeel Rehman 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 in the semi-finals. In the final, he brushed aside Welshman Ricky Davies, the No5 seed, 11-10 (2-0), 11-8, 11-5.

Davies, who was celebrating his second PSA final appearance in Austria in a month after reaching the climax of the Salzburg Open four weeks ago, was unable to convert three game-balls in the first game.

Coppinger, who is based in Leeds in the UK, returns to the country of his birth later this week to compete in the Garavan's West of Ireland Open in Galway, Ireland. Born in Dublin, Coppinger is the No6 seed in the event and due to face a qualifier in the opening round.
