India's Veer Chotrani has booked his place in the quarter finals of a PSA Squash Tour Silver event for the first time after axing No.8 seed Yannick Wilhelmi in the Squash in the Land presented by Porsche Beachwood in Cleveland in straight games.
Chotrani, making his maiden appearance in a Silver event, followed up his round one 3/0 success with another straight games victory against Wilhelmi to advance to the last eight.
The world No.52 delivered an impressive display to win 11-6, 11-8, 11-3 and earn himself a quarter-final clash with the tournament's No.2 seed Leonel Cardenas.
"I feel amazing," he said post-match.
"It's first my Silver tournament and my first Silver quarters and I'm stoked to be through today because Yannick has been playing so well lately and I'm proud of myself for performing like this.
"I've had a good month of training coming into this event and I'm very happy with the way I showed up today. I had a positive mindset and I wanted to execute my gameplan and it worked well so I'm happy."
Meanwhile, Scotland's world No.23 Greg Lobban avoided a shock defeat to world No.77 Muhammad Asim Khan, beating his Pakistan opponent 3/2 in the final match of the day at Urban Squash Cleveland.
In the women's event, Lucy Beecroft produced a sensational comeback from 2/1 to beat No.7 seed Georgia Adderley in five.
The English player, who's through to her first Silver quarter-final since the New Zealand Open in 2023, saw her great attacking verve rewarded with a 11-8, 8-11, 10-12, 11-7, 12-10 win.
"It was a tough one and I knew coming in it was going to be a physical battle," she said.
"I've been working on that and I'm trying to get more confident in that side of my game and being able to control the pace and play to my strengths.
"I was able to do that a lot of the time today and Georgia is such a tough player, she's almost top 20 in the world, she's an incredible athlete and she's added a lot of things to her game. It was a tough one but I'm very pleased to get over the line."
Egypt's Malak Khafagy produced a remarkable fightback of her own to advance to the last eight, recovering from 2/1 down to overcome Alicia Mead 3/2.
