Carruthers Crushes Callum In Auckland Final

Australia's Simon Carruthers is unlikely to have made himself popular at the Remuera Racquets Club in Auckland after despatching two club members en-route to winning the Tradestaff Auckland Open today in New Zealand

In the semi-finals, the 22-year-old from Wagga Wagga fought back from two games to down to remove top seed Kashif Shuja, the New Zealand-adopted Pakistani, 8-11 8-11 11-6 11-2 11-2.

In today's final, sixth seed Carruthers needed just three games to upset second-seeded New Zealander Callum O'Brien 11-6 11-5 11-6 and secure his second PSA Tour title of the year, after winning the Naracoorte Open in South Australia in June.
