Razik & Galvez In BC Open Final

30 Nov 2008

Top seeds Shahier Razik and Eric Galvez will meet in the final of the BC Open after surviving marathon semi-finals in the inaugural $15,000 PSA Tour squash event at Sport Central in Richmond, Canada.

Local hero Razik, the favourite from Canada, looked to be heading to a straight games win over Mexico's seventh seed Arturo Salazar - whose twin brother Cesar he had beaten in the previous round.

But Arturo took the third and it was eight-all in the fourth before the 31-year-old from Toronto secured his 11-8, 11-8, 11-13, 11-9 victory after 80 minutes.

Second-seeded Mexican Eric Galvez looked as though he was done in the fourth game after England's Chris Simpson, the sixth seed, had drawn level to take the match into a decider.

"But Eric came out with renewed energy in the fifth to win the match," said tournament director Barry Gifford. "Chris Simpson put up an awesome display of tenacity and patience, until he finally caved to the relentless pressure from Galvez."

Semi-finals:
[1] Shahier Razik (CAN) bt [7] Arturo Salazar (MEX) 11-8, 11-8, 11-13, 11-9 (80m)
[2] Eric Galvez (MEX) bt [6] Chris Simpson (ENG) 12-14, 11-6, 11-8, 5-11, 11-7 (88m)
