Assured Schoor Makes It Into Richmond Quarters

28 Nov 2008

A solid performance by unseeded Jens Schoor took the 21-year-old German into the quarter-finals of the BC Open after he upset fourth seed Ryan Cuskelly in the opening round of the inaugural $15,000 PSA Tour squash event at Sport Central in Richmond, Canada.

Schoor survived a 40-minute fourth game to beat the higher-ranked Australian 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 15-13 in 86 minutes to earn a last eight clash with England's sixth seed Chris Simpson.

English qualifier Jaymie Haycocks was unable to exploit a 9-7 lead against Shawn Delierre as the third seed from Canada fought back to win 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9.

A stomach flu the day before his match took its toll on South Africa's fifth seed Jesse Engelbrecht, who withdrew after his first game against unseeded Irishman John Rooney.

Top seed Shahier Razik, the top-ranked Canadian, was in commanding form against local player Justin Todd, beating his compatriot 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.

The 31-year-old from Toronto now faces Mexican qualifier Cesar Salazar - who is also joined in the last eight by his twin brother Arturo Salazar.
