Rafael Ruins Canadian Final Hopes In Calgary

22 Jan 2006

Brazil's Rafael F Alarcon denied organisers of the Talisman Energy Bankers Hall Club Open the chance of an all-Canadian final when he upset second-seeded Shawn Delierre in straight games in the semi-finals of the PSA Tour event at the Bankers Hall Club in Calgary.

The 28-year-old from Sao Paulo defeated Montreal-based Delierre 11-9 11-5 11-8 to reach his fifth PSA final, and his second in Canada.

Alarcon will face top seed Matthew Giuffre, who needed four games to overcome Colombia's eighth seed Bernardo Samper 11-10 11-5 6-11 11-7.

Giuffre, 23, from Edmonton, is now also in his fifth PSA final - all of which have been in his home country.

Semi-finals:
[1] Matthew Giuffre (CAN) bt [8] Bernardo Samper (COL) 11-10 (5-3), 11-5, 6-11, 11-7
[3] Rafael F Alarcon (BRA) bt [2] Shawn Delierre (CAN) 11-9, 11-5, 11-8
