Rodriguez Causes Surprise Colombian Interest In Tortugas Open Semis

Miguel Angel Rodriguez set up surprise Colombian interest in the semi-finals of the Tortugas Open in Buenos Aires after upsetting Brazilian Rafael F Alarcon in the quarter-finals of the first PSA Tour event in Argentina for more than four years.

Rodriguez, the 19-year-old sixth seed, took 55 minutes to overcome third seed Alarcon 11-10 8-11 11-9 11-8 to earn a last four meeting with top seed Eric Galvez. The Mexican ended the run of French qualifier Yann Perrin, winning 11-5 11-8 11-6 in 42 minutes.

Spain's second seed Borja Golan, looking for his fourth successive PSA Tour title victory since September, despatched Hungary's eighth seed Andras Torok 11-5 11-2 11-6 in 30 minutes.

By contrast, his semi-final opponent Bradley Hindle needed 69 minutes to book his place in the last four: In a tough all-Australian quarter-final clash, fourth seed Hindle toppled Tony James, the No7 seed, 11-4 11-5 8-11 9-11 11-3.
