Meguid Makes Irish Open Final

27 Apr 2013

Egypt's Omar Abdel Meguid secured an unexpected place in the final of the Cannon Kirk Homes Irish Open after overcoming top seed Chris Simpson in semi-finals of the PSA World Tour Challenger 15 squash event at Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in Dublin.

In his first meeting with Simpson, third seed Meguid battled for 63 minutes to defeat the world No25 from England 11-9, 12-10, 4-11, 11-6.

"3/1 loss today," a disconsolate Simpson told his Twitter followers later. "My squash was nowhere near where it should be, and as a result it was the most unenjoyable game I've ever played!"

Meguid, ranked 43 in the world, is celebrating the tenth Tour final of his career.

The 25-year-old from Giza will take on Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan, the No2 seed from Malaysia.

World No40 Adnan ended the run of unseeded American Christopher Gordon, beating the 26-year-old US champion 11-7, 5-11, 11-4, 11-5 in 50 minutes.

Adnan, 27, is marking the 16th Tour final of his career.
