Champion Stoehr Storms To Opening Pyramides Win

29 Feb 2008

Title-holder Isabelle Stoehr took just 12 minutes to begin the defence of her title in the Women's Des Pyramides Open, beating French compatriot Celia Allamargot in the first round of the $17,250 WISPA World Tour squash event at Club des Pyramides in Le Port Marly, France.

Stoehr, who earlier this month won the French national title for a record 11th time, despatched qualifier Allamargot 9-0, 9-0, 9-0 and will now face sixth-seeded Malaysian Tricia Chuah for a place in the semi-finals.

Ireland's Laura Mylotte was taken the full distance by rising Indian star Dipika Pallikal. Twice the 16-year-old from Chennai fought back to draw level in the match before Mylotte, the eighth seed from Galway, finally clinched her 9-4, 7-9, 9-2, 7-9, 9-2 victory in 57 minutes.

But England's Dominique Lloyd-Walter prevailed in the longest encounter, the fourth seed taking 73 minutes to overcome unseeded French opponent Camille Serme 5-9, 9-2, 9-1, 9-10, 10-8.
