Rampant Rodriguez Romps Into Bogotá Final

2 Sep 2007

Colombian squash star Miguel Angel Rodriguez secured a second sensational upset in 24 hours when he despatched Mexico's Pan American Games champion Eric Galvez in the semi-finals of the Bogotá Tennis Club Circuito Mundial De Squash to claim a place in the final of the new 2-star PSA Tour event in the Colombian capital Bogotá.

The 21-year-old South American champion from Bogotá, seeded five, removed second seed Joey Barrington in the quarter-finals. In the semis, he faced the third seed, but spurred on by the supportive Bogotá Tennis Club crowd, Rodriguez defeated Galvez 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 in 46 minutes to reach the ninth PSA Tour final of his career.

His opponent will be top-seeded Spaniard Borja Golan. The 24-year-old from Santiago DC, who has yet to drop a game in the event, beat Brazil's sixth seed Rafael F Alarcon 11-3, 11-3, 11-10 (2-0) in 31 minutes.

Runner-up in last week's Colombian Open in the city, Golan is celebrating his 19th PSA Tour final appearance.
