Miller Celebrates Maiden Tour Triumph In Edmonton

11 Jul 2007

Canadian national champion Alana Miller battled for almost an hour to overcome compatriot Runa Reta in the final of the Women's Royal Glenora Club Open to claim her maiden WISPA World Tour title triumph in Edmonton, Canada.

It was sixth time lucky for the 26-year-old from Winnipeg, who reached her first WISPA Tour final in the USA in November 2004 - then reached five further before earning her first trophy,

After racing to a whitewash first game win in the final, third seed Miller was taken to a tie-break in the second - then dropped the third before re-establishing her authority over Reta, the No2 seed, to win 9-0, 10-8, 4-9, 9-1 in 55 minutes.

"This tournament was created by Squash Canada - I would like to take this opportunity to thank Squash Canada for the sponsorship and their initiative to make this tournament happen," said tournament organiser Jeff Williams, the Royal Glenora Club Squash Professional.

"I would also like to thank the Royal Glenora Club, Squash Alberta and the Edmonton Squash League for their contributions as well. Thanks also to Tournament Referee Wes Barlow and all of the refs for their time during the tournament. Finally I would like to thank the players that travelled both internationally and nationally to come to compete."
