Miller Sets Up All-Canadian Royal Glenora Club Final

9 Jul 2007

Alana Miller twice came from behind to topple top seed Latasha Khan in a five-game semi-final marathon in the Women's Royal Glenora Club Open to set up a surprise all-Canadian final of the inaugural WISPA World Tour event in the city of Edmonton in Canada.

Third seed Miller, the reigning Canadian Nationals champion, beat her higher-ranked opponent 2-9, 9-7, 4-9, 9-3, 9-3 in 63 minutes to notch up her sixth appearance in a WISPA final.

It was appropriate revenge on home soil for the 26-year-old from Winnipeg - who had lost to Khan, the seven-times US champion from Seattle, in their three previous Tour meetings.

The other semi-final went according to the seedings - with Runa Reta, the second seed from Ottawa, beating fourth seed Orla Noom, from the Netherlands, 9-7, 9-4, 9-4 in 48 minutes to reach her fifth final.

The climax will mark Miller and Reta's first meeting on the WISPA Tour, though the pair contested the Canadian Nationals finals in 2004 and 2007 - with Miller, yet to win a Tour trophy, victorious on both occasions.

Semi-finals:
[3] Alana Miller (CAN) bt [1] Latasha Khan (USA) 2-9, 9-7, 4-9, 9-3, 9-3 (63m)
[2] Runa Reta (CAN) bt [4] Orla Noom (NED) 9-7, 9-4, 9-4 (48m)
