Donna Downs Peta To Reach Gannon Semis

Sixth seed Donna Urquhart upset her Australian compatriot Peta Hughes to earn an unexpected place in the semi-finals of the Women's Gannon Southport Open in Southport, USA.

The 20-year-old from Maclean despatched the fourth-seeded Queenslander 9-5, 9-5, 4-9, 10-8 and will now face top seed Samantha Teran for a place in the final. The Mexican number one crushed Canada's Alana Miller 9-4, 9-1, 9-1.

There will also be Australian interest in the other semi-final after third seed Amelia Pittock beat Canada's Neha Kumar 9-3, 9-5, 9-2. The 23-year-old from Dromana in Victoria will now meet second seed Latasha Khan, who defeated Australian Lisa Camilleri 9-3, 9-5, 9-3.
