Stoehr Storms To Mayfair Lakeshore Success

20 Feb 2007

Isabelle Stoehr celebrated her first appearance on the WISPA World Tour in the New Year in significant style when she upset top seed Kasey Brown in the final of the Women's Mayfair Lakeshore Open at the Mayfair Lakeshore Racquet & Fitness Club in Toronto.

After being taken to five games in the quarter-finals by USA's Latasha Khan, third seed Stoehr cruised into the final when she beat unseeded local star Carolyn Russell in straight games in the semis.

But Brown, the fast-improving Australian who made her world top 20 debut in December at 17, had reached the final without conceding a game. Indeed, the 21-year-old from Queensland had dropped only 17 points in three matches!

Stoehr, however, was made of sterner stuff: The 27-year-old from Chambery in France dashed Brown's hopes of a seventh career title by beating her opponent 9-4, 9-3, 9-5 to win the fifth Tour title of her career.

Both players will shortly head south to play in next month's Women's Burning River Cleveland Classic at the Cleveland Racquet Club in Cleveland, Ohio, in the USA. The draw of the $20,900 WISPA event predicts that the pair will meet again in the quarter-finals!
