Kasey Collects Fourth Consecutive Crown In Adelaide

29 Jun 2006

Kasey Brown stamped her name on one of Australian squash's most prestigious trophies when she beat Dianne Desira 9-2 9-1 9-3 in today's final of the women's Australian Open in Adelaide.

Brown joined some of Australian squash's greatest names in winning the country's principal open title, including Sarah Fitz-Gerald, Michelle Martin, Rhonda Thorne and Vicki Cardwell.

In the process the 20-year-old from Taree in New South Wales notched up her fourth WISPA World Tour event win in succession and her second final win over Desira in as many weeks following her victory in last week's South Australian Open.

Brown flies out of Australia on Friday bound for the Indian city of Hyderabad, where she will try and qualify for the rich Qatar Airways Classic, featuring most of the world's top players.

But in her current form she stands a good chance of making it into the main draw and probably progressing even further.

Despite a one-sided scoreline, the final was a tight affair that lasted for close to an hour.

After 22 minutes, the first game was still locked at 2-2, but as the match wore on, Brown's superior concentration began to take effect.

"The scoreline didn't reflect the game at all - it was a lot tougher than that," Brown said.

Brown, who trains at the Australian Institute of Sport in Brisbane, said she had taken another step in her career during the recent Australian season.

"My career was always going to be slow but steady," she said. "But it's all coming together now. All the hard work and dedication is paying off and I am getting a lot of confidence."

Final:
[3] Kasey Brown (AUS) bt [4] Dianne Desira (AUS) 9-2, 9-1, 9-3 (53m)
