Pittock Leads Seeds Charge In Adelaide

26 Jun 2006

Top seed Amelia Pittock led a rampage by the seeded players in the first round of the women's Australian Open in Adelaide today when she brushed aside New Zealand's Kerry Wickett 9-0, 9-0, 9-1.

Pittock, still smarting from her first round exit from last week's South Australian Open, showed no mercy to her Kiwi challenger as she cruised through in just 18 minutes.

The home favourite now faces her SA Open conqueror, Donna Urquhart, who was equally impressive in her 9-0, 9-1, 9-2 defeat of South Australia's Lyndal Morrison.

In the bottom half of the draw, second seed Melissa Martin had a tough first game against fellow South Australian Kirsty Groves before running away with the match 10-9, 9-0, 9-3.

Third seed Kasey Brown, who has won the last three WISPA World Tour events she has competed in - including last week's SA Open - also moved through with a 9-3, 9-0, 9-0 win over Rachel Smith.
