Home Wins For Brown & Corren In Perth

22 May 2006

Australians Mike Corren and Kasey Brown, both second seeds, celebrated a domestic double after winning the men's and women's titles, respectively, in the Hyatt Regency Perth WA Open in Perth, Western Australia.

Corren picked up his second PSA Tour title of the year when he beat compatriot Scott Arnold in the men's final. Originally from Adelaide, but now based in Salt Lake City, USA, the 32-year-old reached the climax after beating fellow Australian Steve Finitsis, the fourth seed, in the semi-finals.

Sixth seed Arnold made his breakthrough in the quarter-finals when he upset Hong Kong's top seed Wai Hang Wong in straight games. The 20-year-old from Brisbane - winner of his maiden PSA title at the Hilton Open, also in Western Australia, last week - then took out Malaysia's third seed Timothy Arnold in the semi-finals.

But the experienced Corren was too strong for Arnold in the men's final, winning 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 to secure the 12th PSA Tour title of his career.

Kasey Brown faced top-seeded compatriot Amelia Pittock in the women's final. The 20-year-old from New South Wales reached her first WISPA World Tour final of the year after beating unseeded opponent Peta Hughes, also from Australia, in straight games.

Pittock, 22, from Dromana, battled for four games in the other semi-final to beat Hong Kong's sixth seed Elise Ng. But it was Brown who had the edge in the final, winning 9-1, 9-5, 9-2 in 39 minutes to secure her second WISPA crown.

Men's Final:
[2] Mike Corren (AUS) bt [6] Scott Arnold (AUS) 11-6, 11-6, 11-9

Women's Final:
