Weber Wins First Title In Final Event of 2014
22 Dec 2014
Germany's Tim Weber claimed the honours at the inaugural Business Squash Open in the Ukraine capital Kiev to win the first Tour title of his career at the last PSA World Tour event of 2014.
Playing in the 15th Tour event of his career, the 27-year-old from Worms made his breakthrough in the semi-finals of the PSA Challenger 5 event at Sport Life Fitness Club when he beat 'giant-killer' David Wardle, the No.8 seed from England who toppled top-seeded Czech Jan Koukal in the previous round.
Now in the first Tour final of his career, left-hander Weber faced Piedro Schweertman, the second-seeded Dutchman who has leapt almost 300 places in the PSA world rankings this year and was now celebrating his eighth final appearance of 2014!
The experienced 31-year-old Dutchman took the opening game - but Weber regained control of the match to take the next three to score his breakthrough 8-11, 11-8, 16-14, 11-4 title triumph in sensational style.
Final:
[4] Tim Weber (GER) bt [2] Piedro Schweertman (NED) 8-11, 11-8, 16-14, 11-4
