Brazilian qualifier Manoel Pereira delighted the local crowd at the "Tour de Las Americas" Aberto Internacional de Joinville de Squash when he ousted No7 seed Karim AGA Samy in the opening round of the inaugural $10,000 PSA Tour event at Academia One Squash & Fitness in Joinville, Santa Catarina, in Brazil.
The 24-year-old, ranked 246 in the world, twice stemmed fight backs by his Egyptian opponent before beating Samy, the world No106, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2.
England's Tom Pashley also claimed an unexpected place in the last eight. The unseeded 21-year-old from Sussex recovered from a game down to upset France's No8 seed Johan Bouquet 9-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5.
