Favourites Hindle & Kippax Are MeerSquash Heroes

20 Jan 2009

There was double success for the favourites in the inaugural MeerSquashHeroes Open at the Meersquash & Activity in Hoofddorp in the Netherlands.

Top seed Bradley Hindle dropped only one set on his way to the final - his fifth appearance in a PSA Tour climax. His local opponent Piedro Schweertman upset England's second seed Jaymie Haycocks in four games in the semi-finals to claim an unexpected place in his maiden Tour final.

But Hindle, a 28-year-old from Queensland, was too strong for Schweertman in the final, beating the 25-year-old from The Hague 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6 to collect the second PSA Tour title of his career.

England's Sarah Kippax, the No1 seed in the women's WISPA World Tour event, reached her 12th final after beating Dutch opponent Orla Noom, the fourth seed. Her opponent in the final was also unexpected - compatriot Emma Beddoes upsetting second-seeded Italian Manuela Manetta in a 63-minute five-game marathon in the other semi.

Third seed Beddoes, in her fifth final, battled for 30 minutes against Kippax - but it was the favourite that prevailed 11-5, 11-6, 14-12 as Kippax picked up her seventh career title.

[1] Bradley Hindle (AUS) bt [5] Piedro Schweertman (NED) 9-11, 11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6 (61m)
