Wee Wern & Zac Celebrate Satellite Successes
21 Dec 2008
Low Wee Wern and Zac Alexander came away with the titles in the NSC Satellite No5 events at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Fresh from her international debut for Malaysia in the Women's World Team Championship in Cairo at the beginning of the month, Low Wee Wern beat two compatriots (including her younger sister Low Wee Nee) en-route to the sixth WISPA World Tour final of her career - all of which have been on home soil!
The 18-year-old had to battle back from 2/1 down to overcome Welsh opponent Deon Saffery, finally beating the second seed 11-8, 9-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-4 in 55 minutes.
Australian Zac Alexander was the third seed in the men's PSA Tour satellite event - and made his breakthrough in the semi-finals where he upset second-seeded compatriot Matthew Karwalski in five games.
The 19-year-old from Brisbane faced Egyptian Andrew Wagih Shoukry in the final - the seventh seed having ousted event favourite Mike Corren in straight games in the other semi.
But, after surviving two tie-break games in the final, Alexander defeated Wagih Shoukry 12-10, 11-4, 12-10 in just 26 minutes to claim the third Tour title of his career - and his third in the Malaysian capital.
Men's Final:
[3] Zac Alexander (AUS) bt [7] Andrew Wagih Shoukry (EGY) 12-10, 11-4, 12-10 (26m)
