Beddoes Wins In Colwyn Bay
8 Dec 2008
Top seed Emma Beddoes triumphed in an all-English climax of the Women's Le Sport Open when she beat unseeded Victoria Lust in the final of the $4,000 WISPA World Tour squash event in its maiden year at Le Sport Health & Fitness in Colwyn Bay, Wales.
Beddoes, the 23-year-old world No40 from Nottingham, reached the final without dropping a game - and, remarkably, without facing a seeded opponent.
Lust, ranked almost 60 places lower, made her breakthrough in the opening round, beating second seed Deon Saffery, from Wales. The 19-year-old from Maulden in Bedfordshire maintained her giant-killing run by despatching the fifth seed, then her third-seeded compatriot Fiona Moverley before reaching her first WISPA Tour final.
But Beddoes was too strong for her teenage opponent, beating Lust 11-9, 11-8, 11-3 to win the second Tour title of her career.
Final:
