Schonborn Shines In Atlanta

South African Regardt Schonborn claimed the first PSA Tour squash title of his career when he beat Egyptian Ahmed Maged Hamza in the final of the DragonDoc Championship in Atlanta, USA.

After making his breakthrough in the quarter-finals when he defeated Mexican favourite Jose Angel Becerril in five games, fifth seed Schonborn reached his maiden Tour final after despatching Zimbabwean qualifier Shaun Johnstone in the semi-finals.

Hamza, the 31-year-old fourth seed, was appearing in his second PSA final after beating Pakistani Khayal Muhammad Khan, the No7 seed, in the other semi.

But, after recovering from the loss of the first game, it was 24-year-old Schonborn who shined in Georgia - triumphing 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9 in 51 minutes to record his breakthrough success.
