Seeds Suffer In DragonDoc Championship

25 Aug 2007

It was a disappointing day for Canadian seeds in the first round of the DragonDoc Championship, the inaugural PSA Tour squash event in Atlanta, USA.

Patrick Bedore was the biggest casualty, the third seed from Montreal going down 11-5, 11-5, 11-7 in 29 minutes to the USA's unseeded Gilly Lane. The 21-year-old from Philadelphia, in only his second PSA Tour event, now meets Zimbabwe qualifier Shaun Johnstone in the quarter-finals.

Johnstone also upset a Canadian seed - beating sixth seed Andrew McDougall, from Calgary, 11-9, 11-7, 11-10 (2-0).

English qualifier Shahid Khan also progressed to an unexpected quarter-final berth. The 28-year-old from Ipswich despatched eighth-seeded Canadian Michal Reid 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-1 and will now face Egypt's fourth seed Ahmed Maged Hamza for a place in the last four.
