Samantha Strikes In Calgary Open

Unseeded Mexican Samantha Teran caused a significant upset in the Women's Airdre Chrysler Calgary Open when she defeated home hero Alana Miller, the No2 seed, in the first round in Canada's Alberta capital.
Teran, the 23-year-old Pan American champion from Mexico City, defeated the Canadian National champion 9-0 9-5 2-9 9-2 in 56 minutes - and now meets another Canadian Melanie Jans Burke for a place in the last four.
South Korean star Lee Hai-Kyung also claimed a notable scalp when she defeated eighth seed Margriet Huisman 9-5 10-8 9-5 in 45 minutes. The 29-year-old qualifier from Seoul goes forward to face England's Lauren Briggs, the top seed who took just 21 minutes to knock out Canadian Ashley Clackson 9-1 9-0 9-2.
