Fiteni Wins Qualifier Battle For Impuls Title
20 Sep 2006
In a rare battle between two qualifiers in the final of a PSA Tour event, Michael Fiteni beat Englishman Shaun le Roux to win the new Impuls Open in Weert in the Netherlands.
Born in Australia, based in Germany but now representing Malta, Fiteni made his breakthrough in the semi-finals when he defeated top-seeded Hungarian Andras Torok 10-11 (6-8), 11-4, 11-2, 11-9.
Le Roux, 19, from Castleford in Yorkshire, progressed to reach his first PSA Tour final after knocking out second seed Romain Tenant in the first round.
But 29-year-old Fiteni was too strong in the final, beating le Roux 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 to win third PSA title since 1996 - but his first under the Maltese flag!
Final:
