3 Feb 2006

Unseeded Colombian Bernardo Samper caused the only upset on the opening day of action in the ADL Optical/Rodenstock Manitoba Open when he despatched Bermuda's eighth seed Nicholas Kyme 11-7 11-7 11-3 in 40 minutes in Winnipeg, Canada.

The 23-year-old from Bogotá now faces fourth seed Jean-Michel Arcucci in the last eight after the Frenchman beat New Zealand qualifier Martin Knight 11-7 11-4 11-5.

A mouth-watering all-Canadian quarter-final clash is set up at the top of the draw when top seed Shahier Razik takes on seventh seed Shawn Delierre. The favourite, from Toronto, beat English qualifier Laurence Delasaux 11-8 11-7 11-9, while Montreal-based Delierre dismissed fellow Canadian Iain Crozier 11-3 11-4 11-8.
