Pittock Puts Out Lengthorn In Marathon Weymuller Qualifier

Australia's Amelia Pittock pulled off an impressive upset in the Women's Carol Weymuller Open in New York when she defeated England's world No19 Laura-Jane Lengthorn in a marathon five-game qualifying final at Heights Casino.

Pittock, the world No29 from Dromana, beat the 21-year-old from Lancashire 9-5 7-9 9-7 6-9 9-5 and will now face New Zealand's sixth seed Shelley Kitchen in the first round.

World champion Vanessa Atkinson is seeded to win the established WISPA World Tour event for the first time. The world No2 from the Netherlands faces England's former world No5 Fiona Geaves, now a coach at the Heights Casino, in the first round - and is scheduled to meet second seed Nicol David, the British Open champion from Malaysia, in Sunday's final.
