Arnold Ousted In Papa New Guinea

Malaysia's Timothy Arnold was the sole seeding casualty on the opening day's play in the Steel Industries PNG International when he lost out in four games to unseeded Australian Paul Davis in Papua New Guinea.

The 24-year-old from Adelaide beat Arnold 11-6 8-11 11-5 11-5 to set up a clash with fellow Australian Timothy Manning in the quarter-finals of this 1½ star PSA Tour event.

Manning, the third seed, beat German qualifier Friedrich Scheel 11-6 11-5 11-3.

After fighting through the qualifying tournament, the organisational role of Papa New Guinea's Derek Hunter finally took its toll in the first round. The 38-year-old Australian-born Tournament Director went down 11-4 11-4 11-6 to Malaysia's top seed Mohd Azlan Iskandar.
