Third Time Lucky For Kempsell In Geneva

Scotland's Douglas Kempsell celebrated his third appearance in a PSA World Tour event final by winning his first title at the Geneva Open in Switzerland. In an all-British final, the 21-year-old from Edinburgh beat England's Mark Fuller to take the trophy in the long-established PSA Challenger 5 squash event at Geneva Squash Club in Geneva.

Third seed Kempsell claimed his unexpected place in the final after upsetting New Zealander Lance Beddoes, the top seed, in the semi-finals.

It was in the previous round that Fuller made his breakthrough. The No.8 seed from Nottingham despatched second-seeded Spaniard Carlos Cornes Ribadas in four games before going on to reach the third Tour final of his career after seeing off Finland's fourth seed Matias Tuomi in the semis.

Honours were shared after the first two games of the final, but World No.113 Kempsell soon re-established the upper hand before closing out the match 11-4, 8-11, 11-6, 11-1 to end 29-year-old Fuller's bid for a maiden Tour title.

Kempsell expressed his delight on Twitter: "Absolutely buzzed to win my first professional title here in Geneva!" the jubilant Scot told his followers. "Hopefully will be the start of a big push to bigger things!"
