Shahin First To Four In 2014

18 Aug 2014

Egyptian teenager Nadine Shahin became the first player to win four WSA World Tour titles this year when she overcame local star Alyssa Mehta in the final of the Women's Colony Ford Lincoln National Squash Academy Open, the WSA Tour 5 event at the National Squash Academy in Toronto, Canada.

Shahin, the 17-year-old top seed from Cairo, reached the final - the fifth of her brief career to date - after overcoming compatriot Nouran El Torky 11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6.

Mehta pulled off the best sequence of wins of her career - and upset the Canadian squash hierarchy in the process - to reach her maiden Tour final as the event's eighth seed!

The 18-year-old, ranked outside the world top 150, followed a mighty quarter-final upset over second seed Hollie Naughton, the Canadian number two, by beating fourth seed Nikki Todd, the country's third highest-ranked player, 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5 in the semi-finals.

Mehta pushed Shahin all the way in the final, but the talented top seed ultimately prevailed 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 10-12, 11-2 in 52 minutes to win her fourth Tour trophy since March.
