Bennett & Chiu Win In Hong Kong

17 Jul 2005

Dylan Bennett and Rebecca Chiu, both second seeds, won the men's and women's titles, respectively, in the Crocodile Challenge Cup in Hong Kong today.

Runner-up in the previous event, local star Chiu scrambled back from a game down against New Zealand's Shelley Kitchen to upset the favourite 3-9 9-0 9-7 9-0 in 37 minutes. The victory, which avenged a loss to Kitchen in the 2002 World Open, gives Asian Games champion Chiu her seventh WISPA World Tour title.

The men's final featured two young Europeans seeking their first PSA Tour title victory. Bennett, a former European Junior champion from the Netherlands, was celebrating his third appearance in a PSA final, whilst Simon Rosner, a 17-year-old German from Wurzburg, was making his final debut.

The advantage swung from player to player throughout the match, but Bennett ultimately triumphed 11-6 6-11 11-5 1-11 11-7 over the eighth seed in 45 minutes to claim his first professional title.

Men's final:
[2] Dylan Bennett (NED) bt [8] Simon Rosner (GER) 11-6, 6-11, 11-5, 1-11, 11-7 (45m)

Women's final:
