Al Muzayen Denies Egyptian Full House In Kuwait

17 Jun 2012

In upsetting top seed Mohd Ali Anwar Reda in the quarter-finals of the Jena International No1, local hero Abdullah Al Muzayen put paid to an all-Egyptian semi-final line-up in the PSA World Tour Challenger 15 squash event at Qadsia Sporting Club in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

Avenging his defeat on the same courts almost two years ago, Kuwaiti number one Al Muzayen downed Reda, the world No27 from Cairo, 11-3, 11-6, 13-11 in 52 minutes.

Now boasting a career-high world No55 ranking, 24-year-old Al Muzayen next faces Omar Abdel Meguid, also a non-seed.

Meguid, ranked nine places below the Kuwaiti, upset fourth-seeded Pakistani Aamir Atlas Khan 11-9, 11-13, 11-8, 11-7.

The semi-final match in the other half of the draw is the predicted Cairo/Alexandria clash between Karim Abdel Gawad, the Cairo-based third seed, and Marwan El Shorbagy, the No2 seed from Alexandria.

Gawad survived an 87-minute marathon to beat fellow countryman Omar Abdel Aziz 9-11, 12-10, 11-9, 2-11, 11-8, while 18-year-old El Shorbagy despatched unseeded compatriot Zahed Mohamed 11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 11-6 in just 29 minutes.
