Seeds Survive Kuwait Quarters

30 May 2012

All four seeds in the Kuwait Open Challenger (Cup Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad) safely made it through to the semi-finals of the PSA World Tour Challenger 10 squash event at the South Surrah Ministries Complex in Kuwait City.

India's Harinder Pal Sandhu defied the latest world rankings, which put him more than 20 places below Pakistan's Danish Atlas Khan, by beating the 18-year-old from Peshawar 11-6, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10 in 42 minutes.

The No4 seed from Chennai now faces Egypt's Omar Abdel Meguid. The 24-year-old second seed recovered from a game down to overcome 18-year-old fellow countryman Mazen Hesham Ga Sabry 7-11, 11-9, 11-1, 11-4.

Local interest is still in the safe hands of top seed Abdullah Al Muzayen. The 24-year-old Kuwaiti, looking for his second Tour win on home soil this year, beat Egypt's Zahed Mohamed 11-2, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6.

But Australia's Rex Hedrick denied the crowd an all-Kuwaiti semi-final by removing Ammar Al-Tamimi. The No3 seed from Melbourne despatched the Kuwaiti number two 11-3, 11-6, 11-6 and will now line up against local hero Al Muzayen for a place in the final.

Semi-final line-up:
[1] Abdullah Al Muzayen (KUW) v [3] Rex Hedrick (AUS)
[2] Omar Abdel Meguid (EGY) v [4] Harinder Pal Sandhu (IND)
