Hosts Sweden Beat Belgium In Pool Upset

Gustav Detter delighted local crowds at the Bellevuestadion in Malmo when he led hosts Sweden, the fifth seeds, to a 2/1 upset over fourth seeds Belgium in the final qualifying round of the European Junior U19 Team Championships to finish as unexpected winners of Pool D.
Charlie de Rycke, the recently-crowned women's European Individual champion, put Belgium into the lead with a straightforward 9-2 9-1 9-2 win over Sweden's Anna Detter. But brother Gustav brought the hosts back into the tie after fighting back from a game down to beat Rik Smet 8-10 9-3 9-4 9-5.
Squad No2 Sebastian Victor sealed victory for Sweden in the final rubber when he defeated Dimitri de Bellefroid 9-2 9-3 9-6.
Favourites England cruised to 3/0 victories over both Scotland and the Czech Republic to finish as undefeated winners of Pool A, whilst second seeds Germany overcame Netherlands 2/1 in their final tie to head the points table in Pool B.
The final order in Pool C also ended in seeding order, with third seeds France completing their run with a 3/0 triumph over sixth seeds Switzerland to finish as winners.
