23 Mar 2005

England are seeded to win the 22nd European Junior U19 Team Championships which get underway tomorrow at the Bellevuestadion in Malmo, Sweden.

The favourites are expected to face second seeds Germany in the final on Sunday. While Germany have reached the finals on six previous occasions, always finishing as runners-up, England have won the title each year since 1985, and are now expected to win it for the 21st time.

England will take on 8th seeds Czech Republic, 16th seeds Hungary, and 17th seeds Israel in Pool A before the event moves in to its knockout stages.

Germany's opponents in Pool B are (seeding in brackets) [7] Netherlands, [10] Wales, and [15] Norway.

Third seeds France, last year's runners-up, take on [6] Switzerland, [11] Denmark and [14] Finland in Pool C, while fourth seeds Belgium head Pool D, with [5] Sweden, [12] Spain and [13] Ireland.
