Tenant & Hassaan Swoop Into Swiss Open Quarters

Qualifiers Romain Tenant and Ahmed Mohsen Hassaan swept through two rounds of the Sigma Swiss Open to reach the quarter-finals of the 32nd staging of the event in Geneva.

Tenant made his breakthrough in the first round when he overcame the in-form Englishman Stacey Ross, the third seed, 11-7 10-11 11-6 3-11 11-8. The Frenchman made it to the last eight after beating fellow qualifier Amr Mansi, an Egyptian, 11-8 11-9 3-11 11-9.

Egyptian Hassaan made his unexpected progress after victories over a pair of Hungarians - first beating 11th seed Marton Szaboky 11-5 11-7 11-3, then removing 7th seed Mark Krajcsak 11-8 6-11 11-8 8-11 11-8.

In the women's event, two unseeded players also pulled off significant upsets: Emma Beddoes despatched fellow English countrywoman Kirsty McPhee, the fifth seed, 9-3 9-6 9-4, while Egypt's Hend Osama overcame England's eighth seed Georgina Stoker 9-2 9-1 9-0.
