Shahid Zaman Wins COAS Title

5 Mar 2005

Shahid Zaman became the toast of Pakistan squash when he beat England's Joey Barrington in the final of the COAS International in Pakistan to become the first local winner of the $25,000 PSA Tour title in Islamabad for three years.

The fast-improving 22-year-old from Quetta dropped the first game, but stormed back to defeat the sixth-seeded son of squash legend Jonah Barrington 3-11 11-8 11-7 11-6 in 44 minutes.

Third seed Zaman, the event's runner-up twelve months ago, defeated defending champion Adrian Grant on the way to winning the biggest title of his career - and his second this year.

"I now look forward to the $120,000 Bermuda PSA Masters in which the leading players of the world will compete," Zaman, the world No20, told the Dawn newspaper in Pakistan. "That tournament will be crucial in my ambition to become the world champion."

Final:
