Aamir Ambles Into Islamabad Quarter-Finals

Pakistani qualifier Aamir Atlas Khan, a 14-year-old nephew of the legendary Jansher Khan, caused the biggest upset on the opening day's play in the COAS International when he defeated Egypt's experienced fifth seed Mohamed Essam A Hafiz 11-6 8-11 11-5 3-11 11-10 in 40 minutes in Islamabad.

Winner of the Asian junior title in January, Khan will now face England's top seed Adrian Grant for a place in the semi-finals of this established $25,000 PSA Tour event in Pakistan. Grant came back from a game down against Ritwik Bhattacharya to beat the Indian qualifier 5-11 11-7 11-6 11-9.

England's unseeded Alex Stait also pulled off a five-game upset to take an unexpected quarter-final place. The 25-year-old from Gloucestershire overcame a two-game deficit to beat Pakistan's seventh seed Majid Khan 4-11 7-11 11-5 11-10 11-8 in 50 minutes. He meets another Pakistani in the last eight, third seed Shahid Zaman who beat cousin Farrukh Zaman 11-7 11-9 6-11 11-7.
