Sun-Mi On Song At NSW Open

8 Aug 2010

Korea's Song Sun-Mi claimed the first professional squash title of her career when she downed Australia's Amelia Pittock in today's final of the Women's NSW Open, the $4,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at Willoughby Squash Centre in Sydney, Australia.

The second-seeded Song overcame Pittock, the fourth seed, in four games 11-6, 1-11, 11-8, 11-5 to win her first title in her fourth tour final.

"I'm so happy to win this tournament," a delighted Song said following her win. "I've been in finals before but I always lost them, but I knew I had to try, try, try and then I would be successful."

The 20-year-old from Kyung-Do was runner-up to Australian Lisa Camilleri in last week's Queensland Open, where she also defeated Pittock in the semi-final stage.

She said that win had given her confidence heading into Sunday's final.

New York-based Pittock reached her fourth Tour final this year after upsetting top-seeded Malaysian Sharon Wee in the previous round.
