Ramzy's Revenge Leads To Callum's Collapse

30 Jul 2004

Egypt's ninth seed Amr Ramzy Swelim upset second-seeded Callum O'Brien in today's second round of the Auckland Open in New Zealand, avenging his loss to the New Zealander in the final of the South Island Championship last week.

The 15-13 15-10 12-15 15-11 victory means that Swelim will now face 12th seed Josh Greenfield, also a Kiwi, in the quarterfinals.

Top seed Kashif Shuja has strolled into the last eight with a 17-14 15-8 15-13 victory over Egypt's El Iraky Omar Abd El Aziz.

The New Zealand-based Pakistani will take on Ahmed Mohsen Hassaan in the quarters, after the unseeded Egyptian triumphed in an 86-minute battle against New Zealand's seventh seed Campbell Grayson. Hassaan won 17-15 13-15 4-15 15-14 15-5, saving three match balls in the fourth game.
