Elriani Retains Greenwich Title

England No1 Linda Elriani retained her title in the Women's Greenwich Open today when she defeated Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy in straight games in the final in Connecticut, USA.

The world No6 from Eastbourne in Sussex took four games to overcome compatriot Alison Waters in the semi-finals. It was Waters, voted the 'most improved WISPA player of the year' last year by members of the players' association, who caused the event's biggest upset in the quarter-finals when she beat third seed Vicky Botwright.

After beating Waters 9-5 9-4 5-9 9-7, 33-year-old Elriani defeated No2 seed Kawy, aged only 19, 9-2 9-1 10-8 to win the WISPA World Tour title for the second successive year.
