Waters Wipes Out Botwright In Greenwich

England's Alison Waters began the New Year where she left off the old - upsetting a higher-ranked player to take up an unexpected place in the later rounds of a WISPA World Tour event.

A month after dismissing top ten player Omneya Abdel Kawy in the first round of the World Open Squash Championship, the 20-year-old world No24 from London despatched third seed Vicky Botwright, the world No9, 10-8 9-6 9-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Women's Greenwich Open in Connecticut, USA.

Eighth seed Waters now faces top-seeded compatriot Linda Elriani, the defending champion from Eastbourne in Sussex, who secured a remarkable 9-0 9-0 9-0 victory over Scotland's seventh seed Pamela Nimmo.

The other semi-final will feature Egypt's No2 seed Omneya Abdel Kawy and England's fourth seed Jenny Tranfield - both of whom defeated their quarter-final opponents in straight games.
