Emily Whitlock & Henrik Mustonen Win Nordic Junior Titles

17 Sep 2009

Finland's Henrik Mustonen and England's Emily Whitlock won the Nordic Junior U19 Open titles - Mustonen successfully defending the men's crown and 15-year-old Whitlock marking her promise with her maiden European Squash Federation Junior Circuit women's U19 trophy in the Swedish city of Malmo.

Top seed Henrik Mustonen faced India's UK-based Aditya Jagtap, the second seed, in the men's final. It was the Finn's third successive appearance in the Nordic Open climax - and the 18-year-old from Hollola, near Lahti, recorded an 11-6, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3 victory to claim his third ESF circuit trophy of the year, after winning the Pioneer and Dutch Junior Open crowns in July.

Emily Whitlock, the daughter of former England international Phil Whitlock, reached the final as second seed. The Colwyn Bay-based former British U13 champion dropped the first game to 18-year-old Anna Klimondova - but battled back to beat the 3/4 seed from the Czech Republic 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-8.
