Mixed Fortunes For Local Players In Hong Kong

There were mixed fortunes today for local players in the Women's Crocodile Challenge Cup when unseeded Liu Tsz-Ling won an unexpected in the quarter-finals, but third seed Christina Mak crashed out of the $16,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at the Hong Kong Squash Centre in Hong Kong.

Liu Tsz-Ling, aged 17, recovered from a game down to beat eighth-seeded Austrian Birgit Coufal 7-11, 11-2, 11-0, 11-4.

It was Japan's Chinatsu Matsui that caused Christina Mak's downfall - the 31-year-old from Kawasaki upsetting the world No44 11-4, 10-12, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9.

Two Hong Kong players also boosted local interest in the last eight of the men's $6,000 Super Satellite event.

Unseeded Wai Hang Wong beat Canada's No5 seed Tyler Hamilton 13-11, 0-11, 11-8, 11-6 and will now face top-seeded Australian Bradley Hindle for a place in the semis.

Leo Au became one of two qualifiers to reach the last eight unexpectedly when he upset eighth seed Graeme Wilson, from New Zealand, 11-9, 11-3, 11-6
