LJ Triumphs In Toulouse

21 Jun 2009

Top seed Laurens Jan Anjema triumphed in the Movida International Toulouse Open when he beat 'giant-killer' Simon Rosner in the final of the $15,000 PSA Tour squash event in its second year at Movida Castanet in Toulouse, France.

The world No18 from the Netherlands, playing his first Tour event since recovering from an ankle injury in March, reached the final without dropping game.

And his German opponent Rosner, the sixth seed, had shown the best form of his life after upsetting two higher-ranked players to book his unexpected appearance in the final.

The 21-year-old from Paderborn took a game from the favourite - but it was the experienced Anjema, the four-time Dutch national champion from The Hague celebrating his 20th PSA Tour final, who had the edge.

In his longest match of the tournament, Anjema secured an 11-7, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6 victory in 62 minutes to mark the eighth Tour title of his career, but his first for more than a year.

Final:
[1] Laurens Jan Anjema (NED) bt [6] Simon Rosner (GER) 11-7, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6 (62m)
